Hi folks, we're inching our way homeward. Had a wonderful day with my surrogate brother (in reality my cousin Bill) who lives in Hudson's Hope BC. We had a great time of chat and sharing of family news and information and all too soon it was time to hit the road again. Many hugs later we took off through the smoke. We had smoke coming down through the northern Rockies, Hudson's Hope was wrapped in it with the sun a mere shapeless blob in the sky.
We set off towards our day's destination at Quesnel on Dragon Lake.
Smoke followed us all the way. In places it got quite thick, like below. The only fire we knew of was the big one at Dease Lake/Telegraph Creek to the west over a hundred miles. It has raged over 300 square kms and the smoke has penetrated everything eastward.

This seemed pretty eerie. We were still thinking it was the Dease Lake fire...

After we checked in to our campsite, we were notified that the west side of Quesnel is under evacuation alert for a fire burning 31 km west of the city. The area on the east side of the River is still safe and not under the same evacuation alert. However, our camp hosts said if one was issued they would be around the campground pounding on doors to make sure we all got the message.
We are not concerned at this point. We are sleeping tonight with the camper hooked up to the truck, and with nothing to disengage except the power before a quick take off. What a dramatic conclusion to our trip to the Arctic!! All things cooperating we should be home in 2 days.
