Eastend Centennial 2014

Hi folks, we're off again. Only 1,000 miles this time (seems like a short jaunt!), over to the mighty town of Eastend Saskatchewan who is celebrating its 100th birthday the weekend of August 1. We are taking four days this time to traverse the valleys, mountains and plains between Gabriola and Eastend and because of that we were able to pull into our camp ground at 3PM today at the end of the first day, and make a cuppa and relax for awhile...

This is a repeat of last year's trip to Missouri and Mexico, but because of the time of year, it looks entirely different. The coastal strip is very green and the air cool and fresh, the interior very dry and brown and the air HOT and dry.

So this  makes my job easier. Here is zone # 1: the green and the cool

Leaving the Vancouver area heading up towards Chilliwack

Reaching the head of the valley

Arriving at the Husky truck stop at Hope at the beginning of Manning Provincial Park and the Cascade range

 Inside our favourite truck stop

Heading towards Princeton, the scenery is still green and lush.

And we pass a familiar landmark (wink wink)

The mountains rise up a bit higher...

But here we are descending into Princeton, and see the change in colour??

It's pretty clear we have left the coastal forests behind, and are now in gold mining, ranching,
and wine country...

3PM and we are tucked into our campground at Keremeos.

Having a cuppa even though it is 89F and we are sweltering...

Princess Molly is now in residence and accepting guests....
